St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 2  was established in 1780 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is one of only three Lodges in Nova Scotia who practice the English Emulation ritual. Our Lodge predates the the birth of Canada as a nation, and our Brethren helped shape Nova Scotia's vibrant identity.

Since our chartering in 1780 under the United Grand Lodge of England, we have built a legacy steeped in tradition, community, and brotherhood. We stand on the shoulders of remarkable Past Masters like John George Pyke, Duncan Clarke, John Albro, and many others whose dedication and vision have shaped our lodge into what it is today. We proudly assisted in the formation of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia and the development of the Atlantic Provinces.

“The secret of Masonry, like the secret of life, can be known only by those who seek it, serve it, live it. It cannot be uttered; it can only be felt and acted. It is, in fact, an open secret, and each man knows it according to his quest and capacity. Like all things worth knowing, no one can know it for another and no man can know it alone.”

- Bro. William Howard Taft
